Electric Power Tools

Electric power tools have revolutionized the way we do work. Operations that took days can now be accomplished in a matter of hours through the use of high powered tools such as an electric saw or useful electric drills. Electric power tools eliminate the need for special skills and training that hand tools require. They do their job quickly, accurately and consistently, allowing you to focus on the job, not the operation. Whether you're boring holes, cutting wood and metal with an electric saw, or driving screws and joining boards with an electric drill, electric power tools allow you to do it more quickly and accurately.

Safety considerations when woking with power tools
Know the power tool
1. Operator must read and understand the owners   manual
2. Ground all tools unles it is double insulated.
3. Avoid dangerous environment. Do not use tools in wet, damp, or explosive atmosphere.
4. Be aware of all power lines and electrical circuits, water pipes, and other mechanical hazards in your        work  area, particularly those below the work surface, hidden from the operator's view, that may be  contacted.
5. Wear proper apparel. Do not wear loose clothing, dangling objects or jewelry. Long hair must be restrained. Gloves should not be worn when operating certain power tools. Check appropriate tool manuals.

The following general precautions should be observed by power tool users:
1. Never carry a tool by the cord or hose
2. Never yank the cord or the hose to disconnect it from the receptacle.
3. Keep cords and hoses away from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
 4. Disconnect tools when not in use, before servicing, and when changing accessories such as blades, bits and cutters.

5. All observers should be kept at a safe distance away from the work area
6. Secure work with clamps or a vise, freeing both hands to operate the tool
7. Avoid accidental starting. Workers should not hold a finger on the switch button while carrying a plugged-in tool
8. Be sure to keep good footing and maintain good balance when using power tools.
9. Employees using electric tools must be aware of several dangers; the most serious is the possibility of electrocution.
10. Electric tools must either have a three-wire cord with ground and be grounded, be double insulated, or be powered by a low-voltage isolation transformer.
